Being Me Good morning!! Yet another Saturday AM blog. Today is the day of introspection, reflection, and contemplation. I am grateful to almighty for each and every blessing that has been showered on me and on my family.  Today is also the day of completing one year of committing to active blogging and publishing the post every Saturday. I have tete-a-tete received so many comments and compliments for being a consistent writer and blogger with promising blessings that I am doing a good job. It certainly feels good. Thank you so much for your fortunate words, impelling comments, and thrilling compliments. I recollect the exact moment when my fussy mind and vibrant soul required “ something ” more to do and I contacted my Professor to involve me in anything creative and productive. I pleaded with her to provide me with anything to do.  This does not imply that I do not have a life or have lesser things to do. I am a full-time mother, a full-time homemaker, a full-time HR profess...

The Approval Addiction

Image
Approved or Rejected?  Once upon a time, a man visited Lord Buddha and asked him “ What is the price of human life? What is the worth of my life? ” Lord Buddha smiled and rather gave him a shining stone and said “First go and discover the worth of this stone. However, do not sell the stone at any cost” The man got puzzled but without saying anything took that stone and took off to the market. First, he went to an Orange Seller and inquired about the worth of the stone. Orange seller replied, “I will give a dozen oranges in exchange for the stone.” The man moved on and then went to a vegetable vendor and asked him the same question. The vendor shouted, “Take a sack of potatoes and leave this shiny stone.” Next, he went to a goldsmith and showed him the stone. Goldsmith, stunned by the shine of the stone, said “Sell me this stone for 10000 gems”. Kishore refused this offer. Goldsmith readily conceded to pay him a further 500,000 gems. Finally, he went to a diamond merchant and showed...

Book Review- No ordinary Moments by Dan Millman

Image
Every moment is precious Internet Image In the heap of self-help genres existing in the market, there are some which are deposited in my daily/monthly read. One such gem of a book is No Ordinary Moments by Dan Millman. This is a-daily-read-to-begin-your-day kind of book. This book is written after Way of the peaceful warrior based upon the early life of Dan Millman. The book ''No ordinary moments'' was written more than 10 years after the first publication of' “Way of the Peaceful warrior”. No ordinary moments talk about life in passing moments. Whether we are alive or relatively dead, awake or snoozing, life is passing in each moment. The book has topics for being and becoming real and keys for transformation. It addresses overcoming the battle within and living an expanded life. The book has a list of action items. Each Action item has a recipe/method to follow it. My favorite action items from the book are- Learning from adversity, Three Selves- Three motives, ...

Book review- Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Image
Image from Internet Oftentimes I hear proverb  putting yourself in someone else's shoes and every time it appears to be the most difficult task. Several times, my profession shows me dilemmas when empathy needs to go hand in hand while rendering decisions, however exercising the same is  different story altogether.   Technically, Empathy is the capacity to discern or perceive what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to seat oneself in another's position. And if searched on the internet or read through books, definitions of empathy entail a broad range of emotional states. However, in my opinion, the first step towards empathy begins with being sensitive towards one's emotional environment along with understanding the person living in that environment. This particular novel is full of episodes showcasing the characters as being empathetic to others and sometimes not-so sympathetic and how this influences the cons...

Book review- Brida by Paulo Coelho

Image
Who I Am                                           Image from Internet Disclaimer- This book review is majorly a self-contemplation. The personalized meaning derived from the book vis-Ă -vis life experiences. The quotes are used directly from the book. I read this title from Paulo Coelho in the year 2007. This is one of those novels which retained a peculiar outgrowth of my contemplation scrutinizing life and its very purpose. And I found this book when my life was about to take a 360-degree change. It was during those times when I had to decide the course(in the literal sense) of my life this book became a navigation guide. I had left it to destiny to render me the alternative to begin forward. It was either postgraduate in microbiology or Masters in Business Administration. It does not matter what I opted for, the point is... this book became an anchor to hold me during those...

Wish not granted

Image
Disclaimer- The contents of the post are the outcome of the rigorous search, several readings and experiences, and self-reflection Have you ever had a wish? A desire for which you toiled hard (and smart) day and night? A hope for which you prayed to the almighty with the purest of spirit? And yet, the result was not as you aspired!! Well, it indeed has happened with me… numerous times. In such moments, self-loathe is at its pinnacle. Nothing seems to make sense. There is an interim loss of faith. The suspicion of being a failure. It appears that there is a big conspiracy against me by God!!  However, to my greatest revelation, this greatest failure began to make some sense. Probably because those disappointing times have either spared me from committing the biggest mistakes of my life or have expanded my maturity box. As they say, occasionally, destiny has something else designed. Every choice is an opportunity to get closer to a divine life purpose, especially the choices t...

Be Alpha-type: Become fearless (Advice to my kids)

Image
Disclaimer - This post is part of trait-series-for-kids which I began to search and write for my kids in 2019. With this series of blog posts containing knowledge-slash-experience, I pray from almighty that our kids have simple but a magical life. The contents of the series are the outcome of the rigorous search, several readings and experiences, and self-reflection. Each trait post will end in a mantra to follow.  ------       My dear पुत्र !! ,     I wish I could say that I'm a 100% fearless person, but I'm not. At best, I'm an individual who does some scary things… even though I am terrified while doing them. The most courageous thing I have done to date is… giving birth to two beautiful boys… besides undertaking an open debate competition ( which I never won ), scuba-dived through a wreck 90 feet down ( which I enjoyed ), skydiving, road driving, and tattooing.       In my perception, courage is composed of two things: The abil...

Silence- A search

Image
Disclaimer- “Personal” silence is "speaking" here.  Intemperate devilish acts, inordinate goodness, unbridled loudness, unrestricted information- I occasionally feel confused in the kind of world which is constantly loud… creating rude families and plastic relationship. Be it personal or professional, the kalyug seems to have entered the soul of being. The silent-way-of-life is a new path that I have been exploring post-2018 with many ups & downs. This practice of silence…. is kind of hard for a person like me... but there is no doubt it has defined an exciting road for me. I feel more near and true to myself. In my view, silence has two faces- Good and Bad. 1. Silence is good . Sometimes when the situation presents me with some unreasonable person, or relationship, or condition wherein, my conscience points out that any amount of effort shall go in vain, I keep mum. I prefer to save my energy, emotions, and time. 2. Silence is bad. Sometimes when my inner being point...

Birth-Day (Time to Revise Life Lessons acquired to date!!)

Image
Memories- Birthday with supreme God Gifts (my kids) !! Disclaimer- This is an emotional note of my learning till date and my way of paying heartfelt gratitude to all beings in my life. It is my birthday morning. And I have just finished re-re-read of this amazing book “The pursuit of Happyness” by Cris Gardner. Every birthday this-great-modest-book read has turned out to be a personal tradition. It helps me re-evaluate and re-affirm my life with the thought - I CAN DO ANYTHING! Today while sitting in far-fledge-never-thought-type-place at Assam and in utterly quiet time, I just can't stop thinking of the passage from this book- “The future was uncertain, absolutely, and there were many hurdles, twists, and turns to come, but as long as I kept moving forward, one foot in front of the other, the voices of fear and shame, the messages from those who wanted me to believe that I wasn't good enough, would be stilled.” From being an obedient daughter, loyal wife, sincere employee, ...

Sunlight ( The World Thrift Day Special)

Image
D isclaimer- Read SLOWLY!!!!!!!! In ancient Greece, there was a philosopher named Diogenes. It is said he always dressed in rags and lived in a large tub; he was known as "the sage in the tub." One day, Alexander the Great visited the town and on meeting Diogenes announced, "Tell me what you desire and I will grant your wish." However, Diogenes merely said, "Please stand out of the way, you're blocking the sunlight." Happiness for Diogenes was a quiet life, basking in the sun in his tub. He enjoyed the peace of mind and needed nothing more than this. He was satisfied just to bathe in the sun; he never had the slightest desire for fine clothes or money, status, fame, or anything else. All he wanted was to sit in his tub and think, free to do exactly as he wanted without anyone else telling him what to do.  Then Alexander the Great, in whom Diogenes had not the slightest interest, arrived and stood in front of him, blocking the sunlight.  Whe...

Image
Picture of book cover from internet Disclaimer- This book review is majorly a self-contemplation. The personalized meaning derived from the book vis-Ă -vis life experiences. The quotes are used directly from the book . “People do act against their moral convictions and this is an unhappy fact about ourselves”. The Difficulty of Being Good: On the Subtle Art of Dharma tries to answer the frequent confronted questions- ●        Why be good when being bad is considered to be cool? ●        Why do bad habits shine over truthful acts? ●        Why believe in Dharma or Adharma of the act? ●        Is a "bad person" always bad? Does not the "good" occasionally become bad? ●        What’s the point of being a bigger person?? Gurcharan Das tries to find meaning to the word Dharma in this book through the Sanskrit epic Mah...

Redeem Life out of Social Dilemma- My way out

Image
After watching Jeff Orlowski’s documentary- ‘The Social Dilemma’ which explored the impact of social network on human minds and behavior, I recollected customary childhood words of caution of my father- DON’T EVER BELIEVE ON ANY STRANGER. NOTHING IS FREE IN THIS WORLD. DON’T GET BLURRED BY THIS EYEWASH. ALWAYS USE YOUR COMMON SENSE . This documentary beautifully bells one of the superactive cats which have professed most of our active time i.e. screen time. Other pre-existing cats like television drama series, endless (sometimes senseless) broadcasting on news channels, story filled newspapers, sale advertisements, etc. have been a-bit successful in trying to numb our senses for centuries, but this super active cat has penetrated our lives at the deepest level and is influencing the whole generation. The network has spread its matrix in all spheres of our lives. It is altering our reality and generating phantasm, sucking our precious time, feeding on our energy, and ult...

The Law of Karma - What goes around comes around

Image
While working on my next book review, a thought struck and remained stick in my head till midnight. And I just couldn't resist to share on my blog. Sometimes our egos make us think and act as if we are immortals. Few of us show as if all others are beneath them and they are above all. But what we forget is, there is some natural power above all who is viewing all our intentions, actions and continuously making a checklist. One of the powerful natural tool is Law of Karma. The root of the word Karma comes from the Sanskrit word kri: कृ . It means “ to do ” or “ to act ” . 12 Laws of Karma Researching on topic led me to 12 Laws of Karma. They are not laws but rather more like lessons.  Karma can be compared to Newton’s law of cause and effect. These laws are constituents or links in the circular chain life. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.  Karma is a belief that whatever we do will come back to us, either in this life or the next. It is embr...
