Book review- Visionary Thinking by Ashish Jaiswal

Image
This latest read “Visionary Thinking” steered me to my childhood imagination. I still remember those afternoon summers of the vacations when most of the neighbourhood took their nap. I, along with my curious mind, spent time roaming around the enclosed compound of my colony, charging my imaginary battalion and battling some foreign war or teaching the fictitious youngsters or building the mythological realm . It is while reading the first chapter that Ashish Jaiswal through his writing requested me to resume dreaming and let my life be governed by them. The book is a modest attempt to address the deeper human questions concerning happiness, love, pain, freedom, purpose, money, and eventually our final destination, with a higher order of understanding . The book nudges us to hustle as well as thwart the boundaries of the conventional realms of thought. It presents the urgency to commit the unthinkable, imagines the unimaginable and creates and utilizes thoughts to create and improve the

Learn the virtue of Delayed Gratification (Advice to my kids)

Image
Dear Sons , Today let me tell you about one of  the characteristics I wish you to develop as I find this unique virtue valuable if you wish to excel in life. “ Delayed Gratification ” is one of the moderately dead virtues of our times. We are living in times when instant results and immediate pleasure hold the upper hand and we are kind of dictated by such acts or pleasures wherein the instantaneous results come in handy. However, let me tell you an old Hindi proverb सब्र का फल मीठा होता है which means don't be in a hurry and worry, have forbearance and the outcomes will be in your favor . I know that this may seem somewhat bizarre to you and the immediate question that might enter your mind “ how are you certain whether the fruit of patience shall be sweet or bitter ”…well let me explain to you a little. Remember the times (which are yet to come) when I shall ask (rather order) you to do some exercise first instead of sleeping/watching television with a guarantee of chocolate c

Book Review- Wisdom From The Ramayana - On Life and Relationship by Chaitanya Charan Das

Image
My childhood has the distinct memories of listening to many stories and tales in the no-electricity-dark-nights kindling my imagination and boosting my notion of hope and virtue. “Ramayan” is one of those epics that carries a special essence of truth and faithfulness and obedience to me. The story still captivates me. The writer of this latest read “ Wisdom from the Ramayana ” is Shri Chaitanya Charan Das. The name is familiar to me as I am used to listening to his podcasts and watching sermons on youtube. He is a monk, mentor and spiritual author & teacher for nearly 25 years in the bhakti-yoga tradition. He is well versed in ancient wisdom texts. His pragmatic approach through his modern-day expression of age-old texts is incredibly absorbing. Wisdom from the Ramayana is a neat little handy book that divulges the nineteen incidents from the Ramayana encompassing many of its characters and reflecting on the complex dynamics of their relationships. These incidents from the ep

Just trust me- Rethinking Psychological safety is critical!!

Image
We pertain to the era when there is an endless knock on the mobile screen showing validation in the form of “likes” and “love emojis”. And trust me, this form of confirmation is craving our peace of mind and creating an unspecified and never-ending competition for looking good, being at better places, and placing a veil on our existences that looks colourful on the web. It is very crucial for emotional health that we give deep and conscious attention to our thinking level. When the psyche is getting affected by the lasting social happening in the quiet rooms of homes/offices, it may look physically safe but we are on the red alert for our psychological safety. There are other times when our mindset may feel upset or threatened. Think of a time when you were offended, marginalized, or contrarily repudiated in a social setting—a teacher ignored your question, a boss denounced your idea, a coworker mocked your English pronunciation, a coach yelled at you for making an unforced error, your

Book Review- Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know by Adam Grant

Image
While reading this book, it so ensued that the book, in e-format, travelled with me at random places and wherever people enquired about my current read they implored- “ why do you require to read this book…you already are a thinker ”. Well, here is my instant thought on such queries …" Sir/Madam, I am just not a thinker…but an overthinker and this is the particular reason that I crave to supervise my thinking in the precise direction by forever reading ." The book title is “Think again”…and yes, this appears very lenient to advise anyone to “re-think”…but how to do that…is an important self-defining undertaking . The book is all about it. In 1933, the philosopher Bertrand Russell wrote that “ the fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt .” While this is just as true today as it was in the early twentieth century, the crisis runs deeper; almost everyone recognizes arrogance and overconfiden
