Wish not granted
Disclaimer- The contents of the post are the outcome of the rigorous search, several readings and experiences, and self-reflection
Have you ever had a wish? A desire for which you toiled hard (and smart) day and night? A hope for which you prayed to the almighty with the purest of spirit? And yet, the result was not as you aspired!!
Well, it indeed has happened with me… numerous times. In such moments, self-loathe is at its pinnacle. Nothing seems to make sense. There is an interim loss of faith. The suspicion of being a failure. It appears that there is a big conspiracy against me by God!!
However, to my greatest revelation, this greatest failure began to make some sense. Probably because those disappointing times have either spared me from committing the biggest mistakes of my life or have expanded my maturity box.
As they say, occasionally, destiny has something else designed. Every choice is an opportunity to get closer to a divine life purpose, especially the choices that we often come to fear or regret. Stuff happens all the time, doubting or complying, be it mediocrity or conformity. Accepting responsibility for failed action- is the only duty we can execute in such times. I have come to believe that misfortune or hardship is just as divine and planned. The only way we are going to reach places we have never gone is if we trust God's (or natural or supernatural…whatever you call it) direction to do things.
Have you ever experienced such an event?
Let me share with you a popular small story about The Snake Catcher and the Thief.
A petty thief was feeling supremely fortunate because, earlier that day, he had succeeded in stealing a massive snake from a snake catcher. Little did the witless thief know that it had been the snake catcher’s first catch, and even less was he aware that the snake’s venom was deadly!
Meanwhile, the snake catcher was himself oblivious to his luck in losing the snake, of whose danger he was himself unaware. Distraught at his loss, though, he schemed about how to find the thief and retrieve his precious catch, which he had hoped would fetch him a tidy sum.
Not long afterward, the snake catcher was making his way into town, toying with various plans to catch the thief. All of a sudden, he saw the thief’s dead body by the roadside and recognized him instantly. “It must have been my snake that took his life!” the snake catcher gasped as he spotted the tracks the snake had left by the side of the corpse as it wiggled away. “I prayed so hard to find this poor soul and get my catch back, believing I’d been cheated. Praise to God that my prayers went unheeded. While I thought I had lost a salable snake I had gained back my life!”
Many are our wishes and prayers that, beyond our ability to see, will only bring us loss or death, which God Almighty turns a deaf ear to simply out of His benevolence.

DeleteDear Ekta,
ReplyDeleteWish not Granted and handling it's immediate after effect is the reflection of true maturity of any person.
I would also recommend to practice "Push Your Pause Button", "Re-Look the things from ISS (International Space Station)". It will immediately change the perspective and bring clarity resulting into release of pressure of being a failure.
Pushing a PAUSE button also helps in daily life to tackle driving rush to office in delhi where every body is racing against each other with out realising that after another 1 km there is another Traffic signal where he will again be waiting besides the same person.
And to connect with your story, the person who rushes ahead is also challaned by traffic police.
Thanks for sharing.
Great analogy sir. The concept suggest by you seems practical too. Thanks for being a regular & constant reader. Keep sharing your thoughts.
