You are special (Advice to my kids)
Disclaimer- This post is part of the trait-series-for-kids, which I began to search and write for my kids in 2019. With this series of blog posts containing knowledge-slash-experience, I pray from the almighty that our kids have a simple and magical life. The contents of the series are the outcome of some research, readings, first-hand experiences, and self-reflection.
Dear Mwana (s) (son in Kenya)!
As you grow up, life throws all kinds of unexpected stuff at you. You try your best to figure out why things happen and what you can learn from them. Believe me, today, watching you question things and come up with your innocent, unique observations gives me a great chance to learn from you.
This blog post is a reminder from your mom that you're one of a kind. Your thoughts, ideas, and actions are totally unique to you, and no one can do things quite like you. I really mean it, and its not just because I'm your mom. So, no matter what anyone says, always stay true to yourself.
Let me tell you two tales from recent months.
Recently, Mumbai celebrated the festival of Ganpati. You both enjoyed the grand welcome of the Ganpati idol in our colony. You danced in orange colours and embraced the festivities with great charm. You learned that Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha, the Hindu god of wisdom and success. We all prayed for strength and mental peace for our lives and everyone on this earth. After ten days, you felt sad as we bid adieu to Lord Ganesha by immersing the idol in a nearby pond. Just before I could explain why this immersion happened, you came up with an explanation: "People on land have prayed a lot. Now it is the turn of sea creatures to pray to him and fulfil their wishes; hence, he went inside water."
Your kind-heartedness and unique interpretation took me by surprise! I hope you keep thinking outside the box and pray that you guys remain humble throughout your stay on this earth.
The second tale is from October 2023. During the Swachta Pakhwada Week, we made the thoughtful decision to donate some of our gently used belongings. I distinctly remember asking you to choose a toy to share with the child in need. Your 6-year-old self proudly selected a giant teddy bear, declaring, "I am a big boy now." However, when it came time to pack the items for donation, you insisted that a small teddy accompany the big one, explaining, "Because we cannot separate the baby from her mumma."
The philophilic act of yours shall hold a special place in my heart. You told me that love does not require words but action.
Telling you these stories is my way of reminding you that despite the messages of the world and the expectations that may develop over time, always remember that you are inherently special. There is no need to sacrifice your inner purity to conform to societal norms. You don't need validation from others to find happiness and peace. Let your goodness emanate, allowing you to remain a pure soul forever.
Your Nayece!!
