Evolving is self-responsibility
Sports is one of the way to self involve & evolve |
“I am learning to understand rather than immediately judge or to be judged. I cannot blindly follow the crowd and accept their approach. I will not allow myself to indulge in the usual manipulating game of role creation. Fortunately for me, my self-knowledge has transcended that and I have come to understand that life is best to be lived and not to be conceptualized. I am happy because I am growing daily and I am honestly not knowing where the limit lies. To be certain, every day there can be a revelation or a discovery. I treasure the memory of the past misfortunes. It has added more to my bank of fortitude”- A famous saying of Bruce lee gives me the prophecy to work on myself...each moment of this life.
I may be running a marathon, or cooking food for my family, or working as a leader in my office- all require the strength…strength to be at peace with self, amidst all shrieking or pressure.
It is our prime obligation towards ourselves to evolve in the genuine sense. Or else one can easily become a frog in a well who cannot discuss the ocean because he is limited by the size of his well or a summer insect who cannot discuss ice because it knows only its season.
Self-evolving is being with self each second. Having self-awareness means that one has a strong realization of her/his personality, including strengths and weaknesses, thoughts and beliefs, emotions, and motivations. A self-aware person can see where her/his thoughts and emotions are guiding. It also allows taking control of actions to make the necessary changes to get the outcomes desired.
But how can one evolve or continue to evolve?
We are living in fortunate times where knowledge and wisdom are flowing everywhere. YouTube videos, vast series of books, audible books, seminars, webinars, social work or simply connecting to a literate one via phone…the options are unlimited.
A “baby-step” suggestion, based on how I am doing-
- Try to observe your current understanding by writing out your perceptions and feelings (And if you are lazy enough to write, just talk to yourself out loud- sometimes I do this- sounds crazy haan!!). These may be things that you think you are good at doing, or that you need to improve. The key here is to understand what makes you tick, but NOT bother about comparing yourself to others.
- Think about things you are proud of or any accomplishments that stand out throughout your life. Like waking up early or able to keep calm in weird times.
- Think about your childhood and what made you happy back then. What has changed and what has remained the same? What are the reasons for the changes?
- Encourage to discuss with people in life or if not comfortable to discuss your thoughts, read some autobiography of others or simply just listen to your soul slash gut (because it always speaks)
- In the end, you will come out with a fresh new perspective on yourself and your life. This may include changes to your emotions, your behavior, or your personality. Until you achieve this, you will have a hard time making changes in the direction your life is taking you.
For me, besides book reading, hearing to music, and spending time with family, sports is another pastime that connects me to myself. Sports is a positive, character-building experience. It provides me one of the best opportunities to come in contact with rules and social values. It defines the need to get along well with others and be accepted as part of a team or be responsible for my own decisions. It helps me truly understand the meaning of character, developing strategic thinking, analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk-taking, loyalty, just to name a few. Win or lose is just the result. The joy of running on the path is a magical experience.
And as they say, To know yourself, you must sacrifice the illusion that you already do- Isn't it?
