The Wise General (Short Story)
Reading Stories to attain Wisdom |
Disclaimer- It is a popular story shared on social networks.
Long ago, there was a battle about to seize the place.
One of the generals was discussing tactics with his battalion of officers.
An officer interrupted him and explained that he assumed that the strategy was a waste of time.
“The God has already decided who will win.” he proclaimed.
“Are you indicating that fate has decided the outcome in advance?” the general raised a question.
“Yes, I am.” the officer replied.
The general took a coin out of his satchel and said, “So if I toss this coin and it comes up heads, we win, but if its tails we lose. Is that how fate works?”
“Pretty much.” said the officer.
The general tossed the coin and it came up heads.
“See, God has decided. We can’t lose now!”
They went to their armies with the good news and the soldiers marched into battle with renewed enthusiasm.
After a glorious coup, the officers met in the general’s tent to celebrate.
“Do you believe in fate now?” the general was asked.
The leader smiled, reached into his pocket, and pulled out the coin to show to the others.
It was heads on both sides.
“No, I don’t believe in fate, just the value of self-belief. When the soldiers thought that we couldn’t lose, I knew that we couldn’t lose.”
Sometimes, we think that the script has been written and that success is for a chosen few. However, the truth is luck favors the courageous.
I share this adapted story today to expand the area and volume of faith in ourselves, to have assurance in our abilities, and to launch ourselves into the fray of daily challenges with stability and courage.
If we do, great victories will be won.

DeleteDear Ekta, a very good piece for the last Saturday of 2020.
ReplyDeleteBattles are mostly won or lost in the minds of commanders.
The soldiers execute the plan.
so its most important to have a commander with strong self belief and that can change the direction of even the winds.
Most heroic and prominent example is Battle of SARA GARHI.
