The Dance of Life (Letter to my kids)
Disclaimer- This post is part of trait-series-for-kids which I began to search and write for my kids in 2019. With this series of blog posts containing knowledge-slash-experience, I pray from the almighty that our kids have a simple but magical life. The contents of the series are the search, several readings, experiences, and self-reflection. Each trait post will end in a mantra to follow.
Dear Sons,
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about the world you are growing up in, and I wanted to put a few thoughts down on paper—not as a lecture, but as an honest message from my heart to yours.
We live in a loud, fast, and glittering world. With everything moving so quickly and AI changing how we live, it is quite easy to get lost in the noise.
There is a new trend: Everywhere you look, people are told to "put themselves first." While loving yourself is important, somewhere along the way, a lot of people started confusing self-worth with stepping on others.
I see people with years of wisdom and experience sitting quietly, being patient, while loud or overly aggressive or over-explanatory voices dominate the room. I see people who pretend to be team players, but in reality, they act bossy, rigid, and judgmental. Many people don't really listen anymore; they just wait for their turn to talk. It can be exhausting to watch, and even more exhausting and distressing to deal with.
I will be honest with you guys: even now, as your parent, I am still learning how to manage my own emotions when faced with this kind of behaviour. It is extremely hard when you can clearly see the full picture—your perspective, their perspective, and how people should treat each other—yet you still feel the emotional toll of their rudeness.
Your father always says, being humble never goes wrong.
I also agree with him. But ignoring rudeness isn't easy—it takes incredible strength.
But here is what I want you to remember as you navigate the "dance game" of life ( I too practice it, with some success and some failure):
Humility is an anchor, not a weakness: Never let anyone run over you, but never fall into the trap of thinking rudeness equals strength. A victory won through cruelty or disrespect leaves an empty, noisy conscience. True inner peace comes from staying soft in a hard world. It is better to leave the chaos unattended than to give it energy.
Be a wise judge of character: Fakeness and crookedness can sometimes dress up in soft words and polite smiles. Learn to read people by their actions over time, not just their smooth talk. Trust your inner voice and keep reading, learning, and observing.
Listen deeply: Don't just hear to respond—listen to learn. Everyone you meet, whether they treat you well or teach you what not to do, has a lesson for you. There are times when you meant well, said well, but people have yet to reach the gravity to understand it.
Protect integrity: Positions, titles, and applause come and go in a flash. What stays with you forever is your humanity, character and how you treated people when no one was watching.
Life will put you on the main stage sometimes, and other times it will put you in the balcony watching others. Wherever you are, stay vigilant, stay mindful, and stay grounded.
You don't have to shout to be heard, and you don't have to be mean to be strong.
Be good, be wise, and keep your hearts genuine.
With all my love,
Your Mom
