Book Review- Well-Being Zone by GK Rao
What makes this book especially meaningful to me is that it was written by one of the first mentors in my professional journey. He began as my boss and later became a true mentor, always guiding me in the right direction. Now, in retirement, he is sharing his dream of creating GEMs, and I sincerely hope this is the first book in what becomes a wonderful series.
First things first—having worked closely with him, I can vouch that the ideas he presents in this book are not just theoretical; they are deeply rooted in his own life and practice. One of the greatest blessings of working with him has been witnessing the kind of person he is: genuinely good, deeply grounded, and quietly inspiring. He has firmed my belief that even in a world often touched by negativity and wickedness, the “good” always carries a natural aura of healing, positivity, success, and overflowing joy.
Well-Being Zone: Living the Spirit of Gift and Return Gift is a thoughtful and accessible guide to life and spirit. Written in simple language and enriched with acronyms, the book makes deep ideas easy to grasp without ever making them feel shallow. Each chapter is concise, well-structured, and broken into manageable parts, which makes it ideal for reflective reading—one chapter at a time.
What stands out most is the author’s ability to present complex truths in a clear and memorable way. The simplicity of the writing does not reduce the depth of the content; rather, it makes the lessons more inviting and impactful. The book feels like a refresher for the mind and spirit, offering practical insights that are easy to understand but worth sitting with.
I definitely recommend this book for understanding ourselves, our lives, and our environment, as well as our responsibility to others and the debt of others’ goodness that we carry and should repay by doing better work, from being a human being to being human.
Quotes from the book-
"Even small shifts in thinking and simple mindful actions can transform life."
"Life becomes lighter when we shift from controlling outcomes to improving responses."
"…person moving slowly in the right direction moves forward."
"Nature never hurries, yet everything is accomplished."
"Over time, discipline stops feeling like effort. It becomes part of our natural rhythm"
