Book Review- The Hidden Lens by Mohit Kapoor
"Yet every day, unconcious bias quietly shapes how you think, judge, and decide, often without you realising it."
One of the quiet joys of working with my organisation is crossing paths with insightful souls who remind me that the most powerful ideas do not always stand in the spotlight—they often live in humble faces, honest conversations, and moments of genuine connection. One such delightful meeting was with Mohit Kapoor ji!!
“The Hidden Lens: Understanding Unconscious Bias” is an effort to explore the many biases we all carry, often without acknowledging them, even though they quietly influence our lives. This book serves as a subtle yet powerful reminder that unconscious bias shapes our decisions, behaviours, and perceptions—especially in the workplace—often without our even realising it.
The book is thoughtfully structured into nine chapters, each offering a deeper look into the world of unconscious bias, the science behind how these biases are formed, their influence within workplace dynamics, and the first meaningful steps towards change through recognising and unmasking them—particularly in professional spaces.
By becoming aware of the lens through which we see the world, we can make smarter, smoother, and more inclusive decisions—both personally and professionally.
The book has a creative cover page, is written in simple, accessible language and presents its concepts in a pointwise manner, making it easy to follow and understand.
While it could have been enriched with more case studies from the Indian professional world, it remains not just a book to be read, but a mirror to pause before—thought-provoking, relevant, and deeply necessary for anyone seeking to lead, work, and live with greater awareness, empathy, and intention. It is well-suited for both young and seasoned employees as well as leaders.
"The change begins the moment you see what was always there."

Loved the insightful title of the book "The Hidden Lens". . From your wonderful review, I can sense how the author has addressed to such an important subject that gets overlooked among workplace employees and by us all in one's day to day life. . It is often these invisible dynamics that shape one's professional and personal lives. .

DeleteFinding society as a whole polarized because of the inbuilt structural biases. It start from the day you are born. Our society runs on the basis of your religion , caste, colour , region etc.You have to struggle hard to prove your worth. But there people in each organization who recognizes your worth beyond those basis. That's why we are surviving. Where as Western society is completely opposite.
