Recognition (Advice to my kids)

Disclaimer- This post is part of trait-series-for-kids which I began to search and write for my kids in 2019. With this series of blog posts containing knowledge-slash-experience, I pray from the almighty that our kids have a simple but magical life. The contents of the series are the outcome of the rigorous search, several readings and experiences, and self-reflection. Each trait post will end in a mantra to follow.

Dear Children,

When you grow, you will realise that there is always a natural human tendency to seek recognition, to be known, and a deep-seated fear of being forgotten or remaining unseen. This desire for visibility is so deeply ingrained in us that it often becomes an unspoken goal in life. Whether in personal relationships or professional pursuits, you will encounter moments where this urge to be noticed tries to take over your thoughts and actions.

As I write this, I want to share something from my heart. Your father and I are going through some personal and professional struggles, and this letter reflects what we are truly feeling. It isn’t just advice—it’s a glimpse into our thoughts, our worries, and our hopes. Even in difficult times, we believe there is wisdom to be found, and that is what we want to pass on to you.

My dear kids, true brilliance does not come from external validation. Instead, let your skills, wisdom, and kindness build the character and the strength of your inner light so brightly that they naturally illuminate the world around you.

There will be times in life when you face defeat, loss, or setbacks. In these moments, remember this simple yet universal truth: “Nature provides more than enough for everyone.” The world is designed to nurture and sustain, and as long as you keep faith in perseverance, discipline, and the goodness of your actions, you will never truly be in lack. Whether it is striving for excellence in school, pursuing a career, or working toward your dreams, never allow yourself to be overwhelmed by societal pressures. Promotions, rankings, and achievements may seem like measures of success, but life is not merely about winning. Focus on steady, meaningful progress, and trust that good work and discipline will guide you forward.

One golden formula for you guys- let us engage in deep self-reflection to truly understand our needs and desires. Prioritize inner being over external validation. Remember, in the limited time we have on this earth, the grand scheme of life is not our mistakes or shortcomings defining us, but rather recognising the goodness of our souls.

I hope you are old enough to understand the meaning of every sentence in this letter. But no matter what, I believe in you and have full confidence in both of you.

With all my love,

Your Mother

  3. This is beautiful, Ekta.

Ones self-worth must never be based on rewards and recognition, when we associate identity with achievements, it’s gets tough. The belief in self must always be the guiding light through thick and thin. It is difficult but then easy is nothing! Standing with and for you always in faith đŸ¤— Love and light always ✨
